Bologna
If you already know me a little bit, you won’t be surprised that my first stop in beautiful town of Bologna, a town filled with amazing history and breathtaking architecture, was for an ice cream.
And as always, the more modest and simple looking place, the better experience.
When it comes to accommodation, AirBnB got the upper hand. Actually, upper view, too. When our host opened the balcony we were speechless. The best view in Bologna.
And this is not in my opinion only, since Easyjet asked me for a consent to be able to use this photo from our balcony on their websites.
Bologna’s landscape immediately stands out and that’s because of its towers.
Go where the money is
A quick history lesson, now. It all started as a projection of money and waealth by one family. But since there is always a bigger cock, others decided to show how wealthier they are. And it went like this for a long time.
Thanks to human nature, we can now visit these statues of the future past. Climbing up there is a not for faint-hearted. Also, don’t forget that since you are looking from the tower, you won’t be able to capture it. This is why I prefer the view like from our hotel or the Belvedere di San Michele in Bosco vantage point.
Tired of looking upwards? Walk down the old streets, get some pasta, pizza, and yet another nocciola ice cream.
Bologna’s main square Piazza Maggiore is the best during the summer months. An open-air movie event takes place right here. Come and join hundreds enjoying their night watching movies in an atmosphere that no cinema could provide.
Fan of penises? Then keep attention. During the day, visit the statue of Neptune. You can see that his penis is just the same size as other similar statue’s. But that is actually because of the archbishop who supervised the project. The sculptor’s idea was to make Neptune a really big boy but that plan failed. But he hasn’t given up. Go behind the statue and you’ll realize that the sculptures thumb was made, so from behind it resembles a huge dick.
If your hotel doesn’t have the view, don’t despair, there is even a better one from the Belvedere di San Michele in Bosco castle, where you can see Bologna as a whole.
It was summer’s hottest day and we decided not to take a taxi or a bus but to walk there. I am proud of us but we reached deep down to finish this one. Rewarded by the song of cicada and by almost empty grounds, the beautiful view was totally worth the trip.
Last thing to know about Bologna. You are in a region of one of the best wines, cheeses, and hams all around. That’s why I would totally recommend Tamburini where we tried plenty of food coming from this region.
